  • Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CPR!

In 1960, a group of resuscitation pioneers combined mouth-to-mouth breathing with chest compressions to create Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, the lifesaving action we now call “CPR.” This action, when provided immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest, can double – even triple – a victim’s chance of survival.

Join us throughout this anniversary year as we celebrate CPR and the people whose lives it has saved over the last 50 years!

  • You're the Cure

You don't have to be a doctor to save lives. Just be willing to deliver a lifesaving message to public officials whenever you can. Maybe you've already participated with the American Heart Association before by walking in a Heart Walk. Or perhaps you've helped organize a gala event. Maybe you even helped someone survive a heart attack or stroke. At moments like these, You're the Cure. Even if you're someone who wants to get involved for the first time, you can be part of the cure.

Rapid treatment is critical in treating strokes because the more time that passes, the more likely it is that the victim will suffer severe, permanent disability. Unfortunately, stroke care in many communities is inadequate and fragmented. Stroke treatment is often hindered by lack of coordination among care providers, including emergency medical services, hospitals and doctors. The good news is that we know how to treat stroke, but we need to improve our systems of care. Send your message today urging your lawmakers to support comprehensive stroke care legislation!

A number of approved treatments for stroke can dramatically reduce disability and death, but only 3 to 8.5 percent of potentially eligible patients receive these treatments. In addition, stroke disparities exist by race and region. Regardless of age, death rates from stroke are higher for African-Americans than for whites. Send your message today urging your legislators to take action to improve stroke treatment in Ohio!

Don't delay! Send your message to the Ohio Legislature and urge them to take quick action to save lives!
