A bi-partisan bill has been introduced that would provide for healthier beverage and snack choices in schools for those items sold outside of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. The American Heart Association was proud to be part of a coalition to develop school nutrition standards based on the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s School Beverage and Competitive School Guidelines, which has led to the drafting of House Bill 1572. This legislation builds upon what some schools are already doing to try and encourage a healthier environment and represents a tremendous step forward as one way to help address childhood obesity.
Stay tuned as we continue to work toward passage of HB 1572!
