The national rate of tobacco sales to minors for fiscal 2008 was 9.9 percent, compared with 16.3 percent in 2002 and 40.1 percent in 1997.
The four best states for compliance are Montana (4.1%), Arkansas (4.2%), Mississippi (5.1%) and Maine (5.2%). (Percentages are weighted for comparison) Congratulations to these states for their great work!
How did GRA states fair?
Delaware - 5.4%
Kentucky - 6.2%
Pennsylvania - 6.8%
West Virginia - 14.2%
Unfortunately, Ohio did not fair well with the highest rate in the country of 17%. This underscores the need for a reinvestment of tobacco prevention efforts in the state. Watch for future updates.
