  • Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CPR!

In 1960, a group of resuscitation pioneers combined mouth-to-mouth breathing with chest compressions to create Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, the lifesaving action we now call “CPR.” This action, when provided immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest, can double – even triple – a victim’s chance of survival.

Join us throughout this anniversary year as we celebrate CPR and the people whose lives it has saved over the last 50 years!

  • You're the Cure

You don't have to be a doctor to save lives. Just be willing to deliver a lifesaving message to public officials whenever you can. Maybe you've already participated with the American Heart Association before by walking in a Heart Walk. Or perhaps you've helped organize a gala event. Maybe you even helped someone survive a heart attack or stroke. At moments like these, You're the Cure. Even if you're someone who wants to get involved for the first time, you can be part of the cure.

On March 10th, nearly 90 passionate You’re the Cure advocates from across the country gathered in our nation’s Capitol to meet with their lawmakers. This diverse group of researchers and survivors came to deliver a unified message: support increased, sustained funding for National Institutes of Health heart disease and stroke research to fight our nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers.

Although someone in the United States dies every 38 seconds from cardiovascular disease, the NIH currently devotes only 4% of its budget to heart research and a mere 1% on stroke. Not only is increased NIH funding an investment in the health of our communities, the jobs created by our research facilities are an investment in our economy. Please take a moment to join your voice with those on Capitol Hill.  Send your message of support today!

Special thanks to our fantastic Great Rivers Affiliate advocates who took time out of their busy lives to join us on Capitol Hill: Lee Meadows, Theresa Smith, Dr. Mark Anstadt, Emilie Heath, Dr. Steven Houser, Dr. Timothy Gardner, Linda Ball and Dr. Alan Daugherty.
