  • Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CPR!

In 1960, a group of resuscitation pioneers combined mouth-to-mouth breathing with chest compressions to create Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, the lifesaving action we now call “CPR.” This action, when provided immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest, can double – even triple – a victim’s chance of survival.

Join us throughout this anniversary year as we celebrate CPR and the people whose lives it has saved over the last 50 years!

  • You're the Cure

You don't have to be a doctor to save lives. Just be willing to deliver a lifesaving message to public officials whenever you can. Maybe you've already participated with the American Heart Association before by walking in a Heart Walk. Or perhaps you've helped organize a gala event. Maybe you even helped someone survive a heart attack or stroke. At moments like these, You're the Cure. Even if you're someone who wants to get involved for the first time, you can be part of the cure.

Eight-time NBA All-Star Paul Pierce joined the nationwide fight to combat childhood obesity today as a National Athlete Spokesperson for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a partnership of the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation.
Pierce will work with the Alliance's empowerME Kids' Movement to encourage kids in Boston and across the country to eat healthier, move more and be leaders in the fight against childhood obesity. The Alliance will also leverage Pierce's star power to encourage teens and tweens to join the more than 2.2 million young people who have already made a commitment to the Movement at http://www.empowerme2b.org/.

"I struggled with my own weight as a young man, and I have seen my family, friends and community struggle with not having enough opportunities to eat well and engage in physical activity," said Pierce. "Staying active and eating well has been a huge part of my success and I think it is critical that kids everywhere understand how important exercise and nutrition are to a happy, successful life."
