Yesterday, the Ohio Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of the tobacco settlement funds intended to be used for tobacco prevention and cessation efforts. In 2008, the state reallocated funds from the tobacco endowment to fund other areas. The money, over $200 million, has since been the focus of a long court battle. A Franklin County judge ruled that the state could not use the money for purposes other than tobacco prevention and cessation, but an appelate judge reversed that ruling. Now, the final ruling rests with the Supreme Court. The process has started, with the Court hearing oral arguments yesterday, but a ruling could still be months away. We will post updates whenever they become available.
