  • Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CPR!

In 1960, a group of resuscitation pioneers combined mouth-to-mouth breathing with chest compressions to create Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, the lifesaving action we now call “CPR.” This action, when provided immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest, can double – even triple – a victim’s chance of survival.

Join us throughout this anniversary year as we celebrate CPR and the people whose lives it has saved over the last 50 years!

  • You're the Cure

You don't have to be a doctor to save lives. Just be willing to deliver a lifesaving message to public officials whenever you can. Maybe you've already participated with the American Heart Association before by walking in a Heart Walk. Or perhaps you've helped organize a gala event. Maybe you even helped someone survive a heart attack or stroke. At moments like these, You're the Cure. Even if you're someone who wants to get involved for the first time, you can be part of the cure.

A new American Stroke Association pilot campaign is reminding men that it’s better to be smart than tough if a stroke occurs. That means calling 9-1-1 for help if stroke symptoms appear. And former NFL stars Trent Green and Eddie George are lending a hand to help us get out our lifesaving message.

Trent is a former quarterback with the Kansas City Chiefs. On Sept. 29 he headlined media events in Kansas City along with Heath Heckadon, a 33-year-old stroke survivor. They also visited MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital in Overland Park, Kan., where they met with nearly 100 enthusiastic stroke survivors and current rehabilitation patients.

Trent supports our cause to honor the memory of his father, who died of cardiovascular disease.

Eddie is a former running back with the Tennessee Titans and an Ohio State University alum. On Aug. 18 he talked about our campaign on the Fox Morning Show and sports radio station 104.5 The Zone.
He also visited with stroke survivors at Skyline Medical Center, signing autographs and giving lots of hugs.

Trent and Eddie are two “tough guys” who really know how to play it smart. And we thank them both for doing it on our behalf.
