  • Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CPR!

In 1960, a group of resuscitation pioneers combined mouth-to-mouth breathing with chest compressions to create Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, the lifesaving action we now call “CPR.” This action, when provided immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest, can double – even triple – a victim’s chance of survival.

Join us throughout this anniversary year as we celebrate CPR and the people whose lives it has saved over the last 50 years!

  • You're the Cure

You don't have to be a doctor to save lives. Just be willing to deliver a lifesaving message to public officials whenever you can. Maybe you've already participated with the American Heart Association before by walking in a Heart Walk. Or perhaps you've helped organize a gala event. Maybe you even helped someone survive a heart attack or stroke. At moments like these, You're the Cure. Even if you're someone who wants to get involved for the first time, you can be part of the cure.

Thanksgiving Message from Nancy Brown

Thursday, November 25, 2010
Happy Thanksgiving! This week, many of us gather with family, friends and loved ones to celebrate and give thanks. At the American Heart Association, we‘re proud to be a part of many of these meaningful moments — through the thousands of lives we’ve saved and protected.

Our mission is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. That single purpose drives all we do. This Thanksgiving, I give special thanks to the wonderful people helping us achieve that goal — donors, volunteers, healthcare professionals and countless others who every day make matters of the heart matter in our daily lives.

You’ve helped save lives by supporting us in areas like:
  • Essential CPR training and guidelines for the millions of families, educators and medical staff in workplaces and communities across America.
  • Major funding for cutting-edge research in education, prevention and treatment of heart and blood vessel diseases that affect millions of Americans.
  • Breakthrough pediatric heart treatment for the thousands of babies born every year with heart defects.
  • National education and engagement programs that address childhood and adult obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and many other conditions.
By promoting heart health, we’re helping those in our communities — and ourselves — spend many more holidays with the ones we love. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Nancy Brown
Chief Executive Officer
American Heart Association

P.S. If you’re already planning your end-of-year charitable giving, please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the American Heart Association. We’ve been saving lives for more than 60 years, and we’ll need your generosity to continue the fight against heart disease and stroke.
