  • Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CPR!

In 1960, a group of resuscitation pioneers combined mouth-to-mouth breathing with chest compressions to create Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, the lifesaving action we now call “CPR.” This action, when provided immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest, can double – even triple – a victim’s chance of survival.

Join us throughout this anniversary year as we celebrate CPR and the people whose lives it has saved over the last 50 years!

  • You're the Cure

You don't have to be a doctor to save lives. Just be willing to deliver a lifesaving message to public officials whenever you can. Maybe you've already participated with the American Heart Association before by walking in a Heart Walk. Or perhaps you've helped organize a gala event. Maybe you even helped someone survive a heart attack or stroke. At moments like these, You're the Cure. Even if you're someone who wants to get involved for the first time, you can be part of the cure.

Kentucky Advocacy Day 2012

You're the Cure at the Capitol
February 14, 2012

"Kentucky Lobby Day is my chance to make a difference in the lives of Kentuckians. It is an opportunity to educate our legislators on important issues affecting our Commonwealth's health and well-being and to bring them up to date on initiatives that address both the cardiovascular health and obesity levels of our citizens. It is well worth the investment of time." --Jack Rutherford, Richmond, KY

Advocating for a Heart-Healthier KY on Valentine’s Day
The capitol in the Bluegrass State was RED for Kentucky Lobby Day on February 14 as nearly 100 red-clad advocates braved the weather to travel to Frankfort.  The Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Cardiology joined with the American Heart Association for a morning issue training session followed by dozens of meetings with state senators and representatives.  Representative Susan Westrom, sponsor of the Smoke Free Kentucky Act, welcomed the group and commented that the bill has perhaps been the easiest to work on of her career because of the “army” of advocates supporting the measure.  Also on the agenda was support of SB 110 which would strengthen Kentucky’s shared use statutes, encouraging increased physical activity opportunities on school property.  Senate Bill 133, focusing on complete streets, was also highlighted.

The morning session was punctuated by a visit from Colmon Elridge, special assistant to Governor Beshear, who presented a proclamation for American Heart Month and spoke of his personal support for our Smoke Free Kentucky efforts. We hope you'll make plans to join us next February for Kentucky Advocacy Day: You're the Cure at the Capitol!
