Opinion piece from the Toledo Blade on Ohio Supreme Court decision

The Ohio Supreme Court, in a recent ruling, did not address the wisdom of state lawmakers when they looted money intended for anti-smoking programs to help balance the budget. The court simply affirmed that they had the authority to do so.

Removing financial support from efforts to prevent smoking, especially among young Ohioans, has always been shortsighted. Failing to make that investment now will boost health-related costs to the state, and its taxpayers, to treat smoking-related illness in the long term. But that clearly is not the General Assembly’s concern.
