Who is the Next Generation?
Next Generation is a group of American Heart Association advocates who are young volunteer leaders. The group spans ages 18-35 and works to improve and expand the engagement of young people in the grassroots efforts of the American Heart Association.
What is the directive of the Next Generation group?
The grassroots staff for the five-state Great Rivers Affiliate of the American Heart Association conducts an annual survey of the active grassroots network. These surveys consistently show that the You’re the Cure network is currently underrepresented in certain age groups--particularly the 18-35 age range. You’re the Cure: Next Generation will be a group of passionate advocates from across the five-states who come together to help expand the engagement of young people in the grassroots efforts as well as to help brainstorm innovative campaigns and outreach to involve young people.
What does being a member of the Next Generation entail?
Members will participate in conference calls to brainstorm and plan ways to engage the younger population of grassroots advocates. We want to hear from you! We will discuss our current policy priorities and campaigns but ideally, the group would assist in coming up with ideas on how we can expand our current activities to get young people involved and excited about our mission. The time commitment is minimal: we expect to have between 4-6 conference calls per year. We would also discuss event participation opportunities, such as state Lobby Days, etc.
