  • Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CPR!

In 1960, a group of resuscitation pioneers combined mouth-to-mouth breathing with chest compressions to create Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, the lifesaving action we now call “CPR.” This action, when provided immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest, can double – even triple – a victim’s chance of survival.

Join us throughout this anniversary year as we celebrate CPR and the people whose lives it has saved over the last 50 years!

  • You're the Cure

You don't have to be a doctor to save lives. Just be willing to deliver a lifesaving message to public officials whenever you can. Maybe you've already participated with the American Heart Association before by walking in a Heart Walk. Or perhaps you've helped organize a gala event. Maybe you even helped someone survive a heart attack or stroke. At moments like these, You're the Cure. Even if you're someone who wants to get involved for the first time, you can be part of the cure.

As a founding member of the Pennsylvania Alliance to Control Tobacco, the American Heart Association is pleased to invite you to attend a SPECIAL ADVOCACY DAY on May 1, 2012 at the State Capitol in Harrisburg that will focus on educating Pennsylvania lawmakers about closing the loopholes in the Clean Indoor Air law!

The American Lung Association of the Mid Atlantic and the PA Alliance to Control Tobacco has invited advocates from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association to join them at their Advocacy Day that will emphasize the need to remove all exemptions to the Pennsylvania Clean Indoor Air law. While the Clean Indoor Air law that passed in 2008 banned smoking in many public places, exemptions were included that continue to expose thousands of employees and patrons to the dangers of second-hand smoke in places such as some bars, private clubs and casinos. The time has come to advocate closing these loopholes to protect ALL Pennsylvanians from second-hand smoke.

Please register at www.pactonline.org (look for the purple box that says “Advocacy Day”) and don’t forget to list “American Heart Association” in the “organization” box. All legislative appointments will be based on your home address, which is the address used for voting purposes. More information will be forthcoming from the PA Alliance to Control Tobacco to review the issue, talking points and logistics for the day.

We hope you will join the American Heart Association and our state partners on May 1!
