  • Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CPR!

In 1960, a group of resuscitation pioneers combined mouth-to-mouth breathing with chest compressions to create Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, the lifesaving action we now call “CPR.” This action, when provided immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest, can double – even triple – a victim’s chance of survival.

Join us throughout this anniversary year as we celebrate CPR and the people whose lives it has saved over the last 50 years!

  • You're the Cure

You don't have to be a doctor to save lives. Just be willing to deliver a lifesaving message to public officials whenever you can. Maybe you've already participated with the American Heart Association before by walking in a Heart Walk. Or perhaps you've helped organize a gala event. Maybe you even helped someone survive a heart attack or stroke. At moments like these, You're the Cure. Even if you're someone who wants to get involved for the first time, you can be part of the cure.

The capitol in the Bluegrass State was red for Kentucky Lobby Day on February 14 as nearly100 red-clad advocates traveled to Frankfort. Co-sponsored by the Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Cardiology advocates met with elected officials to speak about the Smoke Free Kentucky Act. Also on the agenda was support of SB 110 which would strengthen Kentucky’s shared use statutes, encouraging increased physical activity opportunities on school property. And SB 133, focusing on complete streets, was also highlighted. The morning session was punctuated by a visit from Colmon Elridge, special assistant
to Governor Beshear, who presented a proclamation for American Heart Month and spoke of his personal support for our Smoke Free Kentucky efforts.

Kentucky — The Triple Crown for Policy Passage
  • Senate Bill 110 passed and was signed into law to clarify statutes regarding shared use agreements between schools and other organizations, making it more likely that schools will open their facilities for increased physical activity opportunities after school hours.
  • House Bill 467 institutionalizes the successful Stroke Encounter Quality Improvement Program (SEQIP) and establishes a statewide stroke registry for all primary stroke centers and other hospitals wishing to participate.
  • In addition, House Bill 289, the Smoke Free Kentucky Act, was voted out of the House Health & Welfare Committee. In the second year of this multi-year campaign, this is the farthest that the effort has gotten in the legislative process.
