- House Bill 1400, which recognizes Primary Stroke Centers in the state, was signed into law by the Governor.
- Senate Bill 351, which clarifies Pennsylvania law to provide Good Samaritan liability protection to AED program facilitators and lay rescuers using CPR, passed the Senate and the House and was signed by the Governor.
- Finally, we are persistently working to remove exemptions in Pennsylvania’s smoke free law. Passing Senate Bill 35 – Clean Air for All Pennsylvanians: No More Exemptions – will be an uphill battle, but it is important that workers and the public are protected from the dangers of secondhand smoke in all indoor venues.
On February 6, 50 red-clad You’re the Cure advocates traveled to the state capitol in Harrisburg for our annual Pennsylvania Advocacy Day to speak with legislators on our two top issues—HB 1400 that would recognize primary stroke centers as those designated by The Joint Commission or other nationally recognized accrediting body is a first step in strengthening stroke systems of care in the state, and SB 351 which would close several loopholes in Pennsylvania’s Good Samaritan law regarding use of AEDs and CPR. To bring the issue to life, legislators, their staffs and others in the capitol rotunda could see a hands-only CPR demonstration and pick up CPR Anytime kits.
